Chuck Murray and Randy Groves win at Gaston
Chuck Murray and Randy Groves of the Sandy Creek Bass Masters had a great catch on Gaston Lake this weekend. Chuck and Randy brought 7 fish to the scales weighing 24.38 pounds besting the field by over 4 pounds. Chuck and Randy said the bite was tough early as they did not catch a keeper fish until 8:30am. “The day started out pretty tough Chuck said. We went to some of our best top water stuff and really nothing. Then we had some boat trouble and it took us about 30 minutes to figure out how to get the motor cranked. Somehow we kicked a breaker. We finally settled down and the second fish we caught was a 4.5 pounder on a stump about 6ft, so we went to a stretch that has about 5 big stumps in a turn near the channel and caught our limit in no time. It turned out to be a great day after all.
Jay Wright and Ricky Ballance of the Sandy Creek Bass Masters had a great catch as well with 7 bass weighing 20.04 pounds. Jay and Ricky were very excited and reported they caught about 30 fish during the day and stated they lost a couple of good fish or they would have given Chuck and Randy a run for the money. They reported catches on top water baits, senkos and jigs. Andy Evans and Brent Boyette had a great catch as well and took third with 17.70 lbs and reported their catch came on the world famous white Senko and shaky heads. We believe the shaky head but the white senko?
Fourth Place went to the local Father and Son duo of Adam and Gene Richardson with 7 fish weighing 17.07 pounds. Mike Higgins and Nate Ramous took 5th place with 7 bass weighing16.46 pounds.
