Lake Norman Wildcard Results
North Carolina hosted their Wild Card NC BASS Nation last chance Qualifier at Lake Norman in Mooresville NC on October 28th and October 29th with 80 anglers vying to represent the NC BASS Nation at the 2017 BASS Regional hosted by B.A.S.S. with all hoping to continue on the road to qualify for a shot at the BASS MASTER CLASSIC!
Patrick King with Look Out Shoals was on the “look out” for the winning fish! Patrick brought a daily limit each day to the scales and was crowned the Boater Champion with a winning weight of 18.54 pounds. Patrick is a proven fisherman and has won two of the qualifiers in the past three years. This will be his third time trying to advance from the next step (BASS Regional to be held in June 2017) to the Nation Championship, just one step from the BASS Master CLASSIC!.
Steve Dyer is back on the state team again finishing second with a total weight of 16.98 (South Fork Bass Masters) and team mate Derek Lilly finished third with 16.61 pounds. This is Derek’s first time qualifying for the NC BASS Nation state team.
JJ Morse (South Fork) was crowned the Non-Boater Champion with a total weight of 11.26 lbs. This will be his first time advancing to the NC BASS Nation Regional as well as new comer and second place finisher Samantha Gay (Sandy Creek Bass Masters). Samantha had a two day total weight of 9.85 pounds to just edge out Mike Green who had 9.79 pounds (Thermal Belt Bass Masters) and finished third.
Samantha Gay is our first female angler to break through to make the NC BASS Nation State Team. We also had another female angler who held her on on Lake Norman by finishing in 8th place on the non-boater side. Angela Mayo held her on with a total of 8.94 pounds. Samantha (2nd) and Angela (8th) competed against 40 other co-anglers.
